ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) An Albuquerque track wants to start nighttime racing but says it hasn't made a final decision. The Downs at Albuquerque is moving ahead with installing lights that it already owns but the track would need to request and obtain state Racing Commission approval of a change to its license to start nighttime racing.
The Albuquerque Journal reports that getting state approval would require a public hearing and some area residents are already expressing opposition. Track General Manager Darren White says nighttime racing is part of a plan that includes ongoing construction of a new casino and renovation of the track's grandstand.
