(ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.) -- Mayor Richard J. Berry officially signed an ordinance on Friday that amends the Zoning Code to make launching and landing of hot air balloons allowed in all zoning districts.

Albuquerque is a major hot air ballooning hotspot, yet before this ordinance hot air balloons were not addressed in the Zoning Code, meaning that there were no clear rules or regulations for balloonists.

The new ordinance established clear safety standards city-wide, creates predictability for launches and landings, and further promotes ballooning within Albuquerque.

“We are the balloon capital of the world,” said Mayor Berry. “This amendment to the zoning code confirms our commitment, as a city, to the unparalleled experience of ballooning!”
