(ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.) -- A tense standoff ended with five people in custody after car burglary suspects tried to ellude police by running into a home near the golf course area of Rio Rancho on Wednesday morning, the Albuquerque Journal reports.
The car burglary suspects ran into a house near Parr Road and Nicklaus Drive around 5:45 a.m. Police reported that the burglars had barricaded themselves, but exited the house without incident shortly before 9:30 a.m.
No charges have been filed yet, but the investigation is ongoing.
Because officials thought that the burglars were armed, a nearby school, Lincoln Middle School, was under a “modified lockdown” for the duration of the standoff, meaning doors to the outside were locked, but classes continued as normal inside. Extra security was present as well.
